How Social Bookmarking and Social Marketing affects you?

Social bookmarking has literally taken over the Web. On every blog and news source that you visit you will find an array of links to social network sites you do not want to visit, pictures of people you’ve never met (or don’t want to meet), video’s you don’t want to watch and links to RSS feed subscriptions that do don’t want to subscribe to.

Why are these things there and what does it have to do with you?

It is important to know that Social Bookmarking is changing the way people find information. The “old” method of finding information is to type in your keyword on a search engine and search through thousands of results to find what you’re looking for. It works similarly to you adding a “bookmark” or “favorite” in your Web Browser (saving information for future reference). Social bookmarking is slightly different in that you store links or pages via a public web-based service or social network.

Social Bookmarking is transforming the way we store and find information and it is also changing the way we market our websites to the world. Social Bookmarking is quickly opening new avenues of getting your product or service delivered right into the lap of information-hungry seekers.

Social Bookmarking allows you to market your services to people who you might never have reached through traditional marketing or even standard SEO techniques. The benefits of marketing yourself or your products with social media are endless and you have to really find a way to stay focused and provide niche content.

Here are a few ideas that you can implement to make use of social networks and to market your services from your site or blog:

  • Write well written articles or content. It needs to be focused, be well formatted, easy to read, and professional looking.
  • Write good titles and descriptions for your articles.
  • Provide links to Social Network sites like Digg, Furl, Technorati, StumbleUpon, Netscape, del.icio.us, Reddit, Yahoo MyWeb, etc.
  • Place your blog feed URL somewhere at the top (make it visible) so that people can subscribe.
  • Share images, videos and content through MySpace, Flickr, YouTube or similar.
  • Register yourself on local blog communities like Amatomu, Afrigator, or Muti.
  • Visit other blogs and leave comments

There are many other ways to become a socialite, but these should get you started.

      There is another side to the social bookmarking fad, and it turns out that it’s not all that social after all. Here are some hard numbers that demonstrate that one of the largest online bookmarking sites may really be less social than you think!
