What is Google Universal?

Google has changed the way the search engine finds and displays results. In their latest move, they now integrate search results which includes text, photos, videos, news, books and other related results, all onto one page.

When a search on Google is conducted, Google’s universal search will not only deliver the web results you are used to but also show content such as relevant videos, images, news, and maps. These new results are now being displayed on page one of the result pages and the web results has simply been moved down to make room for these extra features.

What does this mean for your SEO efforts?
Content is now more important than ever. You have to;

  • Create a constant flow of optimized news that gets picked up in Google News on your keywords.
  • Make sure you use images as content and tag and optimize all images with keywords.
  • Add video to your site where appropriate. Tag and optimize it for search.
  • Syndicate your content. Put your press releases, articles, images and video in an RSS feed for greater visibility.
